What is READ? Reading Education Assistance Dogs are specially trained, registered therapy dogs who sit with children and encourage them to enjoy reading.
Research with therapy animals indicates that children are often more willing to interact with an animal rather than a person. While the programme is a fairly new initiative here in the UK, it is already a huge success in the USA.
Children who participate in the programme are said to make enormous progress in reading and communication skills while also building confidence and self esteem.
